Divine Sparks is a highly original film with an uplifting message. It creatively weaves an ambitious story. Like the sparks themselves, the filmmaker has "erected a divine symphony" in a colorful, thought-provoking short.

Judge at The MIX International Short Film Festival, Richmond, VA

A whimsical archetypal film, Divine Sparks celebrates the creativity in the universe—and in you! Divine Sparks won The Legacy Award at its premiere at the MIX International Short Film Festival in Richmond, VA.

Dancing to the beginning of time, Divine Sparks lifts you up and takes you on a journey of wonder, celebrating the possibilities within us all. This “21st century myth of creativity” explores a kinetic collage style as it mixes live action with myriad animation, art and accents. Like The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Divine Sparks speaks to viewers of all ages. Members of the Limón Dance Company stretch and sway, eyeball puppets cavort, whales sing, and Native American dancers in full regalia celebrate!

Divine Sparks playfully interweaves a lively fusion of mythology and the arts, with music by two award-winning composers/musicians. Kristin Hevner-Wyatt’s dramatic avant-garde classical music adds a cosmic vibrancy. Singular “interspecies musician/composer” David Rothenberg lyrically plays improv with birds and whales!

Divine Sparks composes a visual poem that links us to life’s intricate web, and engages viewers’ hope and joy.

* The image is of two white males because they represent the filmmaker's late father. Showing the same person as a boy and man symbolizes the connection between childhood and adulthood. The Divine Sparks film and Art Sparks program are dedicated to him.
